Darlington YMCA, as the Managing Agent of YMCA England’s Housing scheme, welcomes applications for supported housing from people from all backgrounds.

Local Profile

Darlington YMCA Foyer provides accommodation, support and training for 31 young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Main client group: 16 – 25 year olds

Secondary Client Group: 25 – 30 year olds. With medium to high support needs, which may include complex support needs, drug-related or alcohol problems, mental health issues, learning difficulties, and  at risk.

Facilities include: 31 Self contained flats, (1 suitable for a wheelchair user) TV Lounge, Training Room/IT Suite, Fitness Suite,* Training Kitchen,* multi-purpose hall* and laundry facilities.  (*completed Autumn 2008).  We are an Accredited Foyer. Every resident has a designated support worker and an individual support plan tailored to their needs.

Additional Opportunities Available at Darlington YMCA

We deliver a programme of learning and support to residents which focuses on rebuilding a young person’s confidence and helping them to increase their self –esteem.  This includes:

  3. Citizenship 
  4. Future Choices
  5. Move On

Training offered can be informal or accredited as we are an approved training centre able to offer OCR CLAIT, ASDAN key Skills, YAA, and City & Guilds Learning Power. We also hold Matrix Accreditation for the delivery of information, advice and guidance.

Residents are actively encouraged to become part of the community, through volunteering with the YMCA’s involved Project.  Residents are actively involved in the management of the project through participation in residents meetings, acting as Resident’s Reps, helping to prepare a monthly residents newsletter, setting up youth led projects, peer mentoring and taking part in weekly walking groups.

Resident’s have access to the YMCA’s mini-bus for outings. Other services offered to residents and their visitors include C-card and Chlamydia screening. Residents have access to the services of a qualified Mental Health & Wellbeing Worker.
