Mansfield YMCA, as the Managing Agent of YMCA England’s housing scheme, welcomes applications for supported housing from people from all backgrounds.
Local Profile
Mansfield YMCA provides accommodation for 22 young single homeless men and women aged 16-25. The accommodation is in 21 single rooms which are equipped with washbasins and fridges. An additional self contained flat provides accommodation adapted for a wheelchair user. The accommodation is intended for short-term use only, but there is some flexibility in the maximum length of stay.
13 full time and 5 part time staff provide, 24 hour waking cover. Staff work closely with service users through a key work system (4-5 residents per worker), weekly meetings. Action plans are reviewed monthly. Advice and support on a range of issues is ongoing, including faith, cooking, budgeting, life skills, sexual health, family planning and accessing employment and training to prepare them for move on.
A wide variety of educational and training opportunities are available and the Education department acts as a conduit for service users to access College, Distance Learning and individual training requests and work placements. Residents are encouraged to participate as part of their license agreement.
Physical activities including inter agency football and a range of other out door activities are available on a weekly basis.
There is an IT / Education / Training room for residents.
Mansfield YMCA practices a multi agency approach to its support, liaising closely with other services including probationary, drug/alcohol workers, counselling, local housing associations and Social Services.
Service Users are able to address their individual needs and aspirations through one to one sessions and are given the opportunities to access resources on site or externally.

Additional Opportunities Available at Mansfield YMCA
We believe that Education, Training and Employment opportunities are crucial to residents being able to gain a sustainable lifestyle. These opportunities are integral to our Housing Support.Residents work with our Education / Training worker, who works with and liaises with the Housing Support team.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the Youth Governance programme which involves events and meetings around the country where like minded young persons discuss, learn and work together for the betterment of themselves and other homeless young people.
Our Coffee Shop Enterprise allows both service users and other young people to develop catering skills and opens the door to a range of ongoing training and employment opportunities
Housing workers co – ordinate a Life – Skills programme for residents.
There are opportunities for Community involvement in clean up campaigns and volunteer work. Many residents also take part in the Princes Trust initiative; spending time away from the hostel in an atmosphere of teamwork and character building.
Service users have an input into the running of the hostel through elected Resident Representatives, who have their own office in the building, and access to policy and procedure documents
At the Mansfield YMCA we continually seek out new opportunities for individual growth and actively encourage suggestions, doing our utmost to meet expressed requests.
Homelessness Services Available at Mansfield YMCA
Mansfield YMCA promotes service user participation in the Youth Governance Programme.
We are an active member of Mansfield Inter-agency Homeless Forum, which has just developed an inter-agency Homelessness Strategy 2008-2013.
We work in conjunction with other providers to run the Winter Night Shelter in Mansfield.
We offer an Emergency bed space, providing emergency cover for 1 individual for 6 weeks.
On our site is a Day-centre for the Homeless that we support and work with.
We currently manage 3 Houses providing accommodation for 6 residents who have demonstrated their readiness for more independent accommodation.
We work with a range of agencies and workers, offering specialist support and advice.
